The Affair - Season 2 Episode 11: Episode 11
The Affair explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship between Noah Solloway and Alison Bailey after the two meet in the resort town of Montauk on Long Island. No marriage is beyond temptation, and there is no refuting the connection set in motion when Noah and Alison meet by chance. What follows is far more than an intimate portrait; it’s a unique and thrilling narrative that unravels the dangerous truth layer by layer.

The fine performances here made up for what otherwise would have been too big of a narrative leap for me to buy.

Noah's most crucial interaction in this episode isn't actually with Alison at all, however; it's his conversation with Max that really resonates.

Now we're in Cole's memory, yay!

I thought this show was all about classism-after all... but all this time, both the Lockharts and the Solloways AND Baileys are sitting on just piles of cash that they don't want to touch out of pride (or something?)

Watching Cole and Luisa move forward with their new life was kind of touching.

The show is at its best - including this episode - when it embraces the pulpy nature of its premise and its lurid, fiery, and soapy operatics.

The episode's best scene: Cole, Luisa and Cole's mom visiting Luisa's mom at the Montauk mansion where she's the housekeeper. We knew whose house it was... but it was still a surprise when Margaret Butler walked out, unaware of Cole's link to her family.

Judging from the developments in tonight's episode, we should all be prepared to leave the second season behind with a lot of still-unanswered questions, just like we did last year.
