Gotham - Season 1 Episode 09: Harvey Dent
Gotham is the origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. James Gordon and Harvey Bullock are assigned to track down the killer of Thomas and Martha Wayne. The story behind Commissioner James Gordon';;;;;s rise to prominence in Gotham City in the years before Batman';;;;;s arrival. Along the way, Gordon becomes involved with Gotham';;;;;s Mafia families and associates including gangster Fish Mooney, Don Carmine Falcone, and Italian mob boss Salvatore Maroni. Eventually, Gordon is forced to form an unlikely friendship with Bruce, one that will help shape the boy';;;;;s future in becoming the Batman.

Holy wheel-spinning, Batman! While Gotham has given us some strong episodes and a couple of dull ones, it's waited until tonight to serve up an almost completely immobile nothing-fest.

I was engaged for pretty much the whole hour. Plus, I'm intrigued by Harvey Dent's arrival.

The case-of-the-week is compelling, the mob power struggle continues to move in interesting directions, and we even get some wonderful development in terms of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle.

This week's Gotham was a fine-enough connect-the-dots episode, one whose implications are characteristically more interesting in the abstract than in the moment.

This episode primarily stumbles around a pointless bomber plot that unfolds into a bunch of nothing. This is only met with equal emotionless scenes involving a lonely Jim Gordon bemoaning (maybe?) the loss of Barbara and the arrival of Harvey Dent.

"Harvey Dent" delved deep into "I don't need to see this" territory, more so than any other episode of Gotham before it.

Dent was a great addition to the show. He's idealistic but realizes sometimes you can't go by the book to get the job done.

It was a comfortable episode that steadily built on the rubble of everything that got blowed up good in "Penguin's Umbrella" and "Spirit of the Goat."
