Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Season 3
The season takes inspiration from the Secret Warriors comic team, combining it with the Inhuman storyline introduced in the previous season. Many months after their war with a rogue group of Inhumans, the team is still reeling. Coulson is again trying to put the pieces of his once revered organization back together while also dealing with the loss of his hand. His confidante and second in command, Agent Melinda May, has yet to return from an impromptu vacation with ex-husband Andrew; deadly superspy Agent Bobbi Morse is recovering from her traumatic torture at the hands of Grant Ward; Fitz is obsessed with discovering the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of Simmons; and all are on high-alert for the next move from Ward and Hydra.

I feel like this is the show Marvel fans wanted all along; a nice mix of spy show and powers. You know, the cool Marvel stuff.

In addition to being a thrilling experience that's truly laying every last card on the table, the new season of S.H.I.E.L.D. also has the largest amount of heart seen from the show to date.

The big deal in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season appears to be superheroes and supervillans: a lot of them, and more every minute.

The rival-like chemistry between Coulson and Rosalind helped to bring their scenes to life and could easily provide more entertaining interactions throughout the season.

As always, there's just enough of a good show here that I'll keep watching, and occasionally writing about, even as the whole thing feels like a missed opportunity that's being unfortunately designed - and constantly redesigned - by committee.

After a stuttering first couple of seasons, it appears the ABC Marvel Cinematic Universe spinoff's focus is shifting towards more superheroes and Inhumans, and generally ramping up the action has been a masterstroke.

As long as characters don't disappear for long stretches of time and the series is able to integrate them naturally, then it likely won't matter whether they're absent here and there. The fact that the show seems to realize this already is a good sign.
