There's plenty of slam-bang in Taken, NBC's distant prequel to the trilogy of films, but the result is less a buzz than a headache.

Taken is far more tense and suspenseful than the procedurals that fill the airwaves these days, and in that way it's a lot more like watching an action movie than most of the cop/detective shows on the air now.

The show doesn't seem interested in functioning as anything other than a platform for occasional fisticuffs, car chases, and gunplay.

"Oh please," "Oh stop," and "Huh?" are only three of the things I kept shouting while watching NBC's Taken ...The rest of my exclamations are unprintable in a family paper.
