Elementary - Season 1
Elementary is an American crime drama based on Sherlock Holmes and other characters appearing in the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Joan Watson is assigned as the sober companion of Sherlock Holmes. With the mischievous Sherlock Holmes now running free in New York solving crime, it's simple deduction that he's going to need someone to keep him grounded, and it's elementary that it's a job for Watson. Miller and Liu have excellent (platonic) chemistry, and Miller is far more charming and alive than when he was battling an American accent on ABC's Eli Stone.

Elementary should fit snugly alongside the other procedurals on CBS.

Reinventing the greatest detective worked recently for PBS, and it works once again for CBS.

CBS' take on an old classic brings the famous friends Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to New York City, but don't let the unconventional duo, locale and times fool you: This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

By the mystery's big reveal, a farce of technology that will make anyone who's recently bought a cellphone scoff, I was near screaming with irritation.
September 27, 2012
Stylishly directed, Elementary is one loaded show, including its wonderful, well-matched leads.
September 27, 2012
Holmes is acted expertly by Miller, with all the quick-witted dialogue and dry humor we love to see from Sherlock Holmes, as well as a physicality that injects energy into this otherwise blandly performed show.

Completely preposterous.

Two things are going for this latest adaptation -- solid production values and a talented lead actor. Make that three things -- a network that knows just what viewers want.
