Whitechapel has a big fault - its stories' endings never stack up and feel rushed - but it has the great virtue of being exquisitely well made.

It was all credible stuff, mixing meat and drink detective show fare with a dash of psychological drama, but the necessary faster pace lacked the creeping tension of previous series.
