V feels more rehash than revamp. The show's producers have shown such little feel for the material that there's not much hope of improvement.

V has its fun moments, but mostly this is pure bunkum, or 1980s-era TV with a thin 2009 veneer.

The show's writing is simply lazy, characters' actions and motivations taking the clear back seat to whatever the writers have already decided should happen next.

Although the new V incorporates themes drawn from today's headlines, it rockets to success for much the same reason as the original -- solid pound for pound entertainment value, from the performances to the pacing to the special effects.
