A strange force has landed on the earth trapping many towns in the USA, the thing that makes them struggle against gaining their freedom and survive, as that force has cut them off from other countries and lives, so they have to cooperate, in order to mange to find a way to get rid of that force.

The episode is an effective stage-setter, focused mainly on the townspeople's reaction to suddenly being cut off from the world and less on the mechanics of living in a dome without power and a limited supply of food.

For all its occasional predictability and melodrama, when Under the Dome is good, it's very good. When it falls flat, it's still good enough to stay tuned for the next installment.

Under the Dome is compelling enough that if I'd received all 13 hours, I'd probably still be watching.

To build a dome, one has to start with a solid base and make sure all the pieces fit together. The process is predictable but oddly satisfying to watch.
