The ability to juxtapose the dualities of countries and countrymen, people divided by politics and history who have evolved to have different cultures and mannerisms, remains fascinating to watch.

Sure its backdrop of grey, English Channel towns, with their 1970s architecture and prolific seagulls, is hardly uplifting, but the characters feel believable with real depths and conflicts.
