The Last Man on Earth - Season 2
The Last Man on Earth is a comedy about the life and adventures of Phil Miller, an average guy who inadvertently has become humanity’s last hope. In second season, Phil and Carol leave Tucson and go on their own road trip across the United States. Despite Carol's wishes to go back, Phil refuses, fearing the outcome of his return.

The Last Man on Earth Season 2 Episode 1 was a very successful season opener that leaned on the series' undisputed strength - the amazing chemistry between Will Forte and Kristen Schaal.

Forte - either by design all along or in reaction to Season 1 responses - consciously injects what was missing from Season 1 into the first two episodes of Season 2, but he does so without upsetting an alluring, already-established tone and world.

"Is There Anybody Out There?" very wisely returns to [its previous] mode, but with the added bonus of Phil having essentially turned Carol around to his ridiculous old way of living.

If we're going to be spending one-on-one time with Phil on such a small scale, we're going to need a little bit more growth to work with here - or we'd better go find Carol, ASAP.

I can see this being a big turn off for a mainstream audience, but I love just how far they're going here with pushing the boundaries of a what you'd see in a half hour network sitcom.

The show's original concept and the comedic sensibility of Forte, its series creator and star, give us confidence that the series will retain the funny, no matter which direction it ends up going.
