At the risk of seeming out of touch with the science-fiction community, we say: Huh? The two-hour premiere is sort of fun, but the plot is nutty even by sci-fi standards.

Hard-core fans of the movie may be impressed, but first-time visitors to the Stargate probably won't be. The TV pilot, like the theatrical film, is long on hardware and gunplay and short on logic.

There was an appropriately makeshift feel about most of the script: like any MacGyver device, it was a terrible mess, but in its clumsy, unconvincing way, it did the job.
