Season 6 opens with a new teacher, Miss Eliza Jane Wilder, and with Nellie graduating. Laura (now 15) also meets Eliza's brother Almanzo (in his late 20s), who has a remarkable effect upon her, and she is overjoyed when Almanzo tells her they should have nicknames just for each other: 'Manly' and 'Beth'.
