It's an entertaining show that is at least trying to be somewhat different from the "CSI" clones clogging the airwaves. It deserves points for that.

Karen Sisco is primarily about the ongoing spectacle of Karen's high-heeled bravado, but its crimes of the week are also rich in character.

[Carla Gugino] essentially owns this role within the first few minutes.

[Robert Forster's] aphorisms tend toward the banal ("Ya learn by doin'.... Sometimes ya learn by doin' wrong"), but the character is so colorful that I can already see him as a spinoff candidate.

The show is snappily shot and makes good use of its retro sound track --it's so Miami bright and Motown cool, you should watch it with shades on-- but, more important, it has Leonard's sense of the imperfections of humanity.

Karen Sisco may end up being lauded as one of the most impressive movie-to-TV adaptations since M*A*S*H.
April 16, 2019
Carla Gugino takes over and portrays Sisco in a sexy, determined style that is breathtaking.

Karen Sisco deserves to be [Danny] DeVito's first TV production to hang around awhile.

I'm beginning to think this daddy's-girl theme might turn out to be one of the more culturally significant leitmotifs of the new season... But Karen Sisco is the most fascinating version of this narrative because it's oh-so Freudian and out there.

There is potential here for an ongoing good time; my reservations, which are slight but stubborn, are based on the distance between the excellent pilot episode, which runs two weeks from now, and tonight's somewhat less excellent episode.
April 16, 2019
Not a lot of time is spent exploring characters other than the lead in this series, and the stories sort of wander by, almost daring you to get involved.

If, while keeping its dialogue suggestive and surprising, Karen Sisco dramatizes the eccentricity, and the drinking problem, of its central character, rather than merely her sexiness or her skills, this show could thrive.
