State Like Sleep
In a story that looks strange and probably carries a real mystery without a solution to it. That story began with a girl who lived her life as a widow one year after her husband's death (Michelle Hoismann). One day, that little widow (Catherine Waterstone) receives an unstable telephone call forcing her to reconsider the past, and there may be many surprises that seem mysterious in the life of that little widow.

This consistently surprising film slinks along with melancholic dreaminess, matching the fugue state that plagues its grief-stricken protagonist.

A narcotized neo-noir that unfolds with the diverting purposelessness of a forgettable dream, Meredith Danluck's State Like Sleep doesn't really go anywhere.

[Writer/director Meredith] Danluck's tale is one of grief and recovery, so the best way to process State Like Sleep is with your eyes wide open.

Danluck has great style as a filmmaker that harkens back to the best noir thrillers of yesteryear; she just needs to write a script with the substance to match.

Overall, State Like Sleep is a satisfying movie about grief and an unsatisfying mystery
