Sink or Swim (Le grand bain) [Sub: Eng]
A decision taken by a group of 40 people, all on the verge of midlife crisis. That decision may change their course of life as they set up their first pool team on the local men's pool. It may seem like a big challenge against the irony of those around her, trained by a fallen champion. Perhaps things may change completely when everyone is looking for a little self-esteem and many other features.

Lellouche, without completely spoiling his work, confuses the personal triumph with the collective title in an excessively imposed outcome. [Full Review in Spanish]

If you give in to its Gallic male-bonding charms, it swims more often than it sinks, thanks to a cracking cast, solid direction and cinematography, and lightly comedic touch.

The humour is broad and sometimes I cringed. It doesn't have the subtlety or pain of The Full Monty, and at times it's as focussed as the random splashing when they first jump in. But its highlighting of the social and health issues men face is welcome.

As harmless as it is silly, but dampened by idle gags, empty characterization and an inordinate two-hour runtime.

It's lightweight, predictable, and a bit improbable for sure, with a pop soundtrack-Paul McCartney, Tears for Fears-that keeps the pace bouncing along.

In light of France's yellow vests movement, it's not hard to see in [director Gilles Lellouche's] escapist fantasy a concern for [France's] social breakdown. [Full review in Spanish]

It's a difficult balance of genres that Lellouche does not manage with special ability. [Full Review in Spanish]

The tone is heavy-handed, the solutions are more than predictable and the surprises minimum. [Full review in Spanish]
