In some sources, his family is of Laz descent. After graduating from Mimar Sinan theatre conservatory in 1999, he took place in plenty of theatre plays. Ali Atay is known as a talented actor, musician,filmmaker and as well as writer. He is well known with his roles on TV series such as "Leyla ile Mecnun" and "Masum". In 2013 he acted in the movie 'Sen Aydinlatirsin Geceyi' written and directed by Onur Ünlü. In 2014 he directed his first movie called "limonata" which also he was the writer of the script. In 2018 the second movie he directed and wrote met with the Silver Screen called "Ölümlü Dünya" (mortal world). He also starred in 2017 blockbuster hit "Ayla: The Daughter of War", which had 5,5 million viewers at the box office. In 2018 he acted in another movie called" Türk Isi Dondurma" as Mehmet. In 2019 he took the best actor award from his role at " Noah Land " which has taken the best script award as well from Tribeca Festival.
